About the practice
Jolanda Mencke
Animal osteopath with a calm hand, a sharp eye and a big heart for horses and dogs.
Getting to know
Watch, feel, understand
Animals tell you everything, you just have to take the time to listen. That is the heart of how Jolanda works. No hurry, no protocol imposed on the animal, but quiet observing and feeling until the body’s story becomes clear. Only then does treatment begin.
From De Kronkelbeek in Geesteren (Twente, the Netherlands) she treats horses and ponies of every breed and size, and dogs are very welcome too. Owners describe her approach as calm, careful and involved, with clear explanations, so afterwards you know exactly what was found, what was done, and how to continue at home.
Training
Thoroughly trained at ICREO
Jolanda trained at I.C.R.E.O., the International College for Research on Equine Osteopathy. This originally Belgian institute, founded in 1997, is regarded as one of Europe’s most renowned and experienced schools for animal osteopathy. What makes ICREO special: all teaching is done by human osteopaths, the complete osteopathic philosophy and technique, translated to the horse and the dog.
The three-year course covers anatomy, neurology, physiology, pathology and biomechanics, plus a broad range of practical techniques, from palpation and structural work to fascial, visceral and craniosacral osteopathy. Admission is reserved for people with a (para)medical background, which keeps the standard high.
In addition, Jolanda studied equine acupressure, a valuable, relaxing complement to the osteopathic work.
“The best moment? When a horse sighs deeply during treatment, and the owner sees it happen.”
Collaboration
Caring for your animal together
Good care is teamwork. Jolanda likes to work alongside your veterinarian, farrier, equine dentist, saddle fitter and trainer, each from their own expertise, with the same goal: an animal that feels good in its body. She does not make veterinary diagnoses and will always refer you to the vet for medical questions or doubt.
Questions about her background, training or way of working? Just ask, transparency is part of the craft.
